Want to understand your options before booking? Our blog covers everything from how the abortion pill works to what to expect after treatment.
Avoid NHS delays with our fast, safe & private abortion clinic in Manchester. Our CQC-regulated gynaecologists offer same-day virtual consultations for abortion pills by post (£399) and in-clinic appointments every Wednesday.
A consultation is the first step in accessing safe, private abortion care. In the UK, if you're under 10 weeks pregnant, you can choose between: an in-person appointment at our private abortion clinic in Manchester, available every Wednesday for £499 or a virtual
consultation with abortion pills by post in Manchester for £399. In both cases, your flat fee includes a consultation with a CQC-registered gynaecologist, MHRA-approved abortion pills, and complete aftercare.
You’ll meet with Dr. Aka (GMC #4275695) - a CQC-registered gynaecologist with over 25 years of experience in medical abortion care.
If you attend our Manchester abortion clinic, your consultation will include a full medical history review and ultrasound scan to confirm how far along the pregnancy is.
If you choose a virtual consultation, this step will take place securely online, with the same level of care and privacy. Dr. Aka will walk you through your options and answer any questions you may have.
If you’ve booked an in-clinic consultation, you’ll receive your abortion pills and aftercare package directly during your visit.
If you’re using our pills by post service in Manchester, your medication will be shipped the same day (when eligible), with a Royal Mail tracking number sent by email.
Delivery is discreet, tracked, and typically arrives the next day.
You’ll receive a step-by-step visual guide showing exactly how to take each pill - including timing, pain management, and what to expect physically and emotionally.
Throughout your treatment, you’ll have direct access to Dr. Aka and our care team for reassurance, questions, or medical concerns.
We’re available 7 days a week to support you.
Three weeks after treatment, you’ll take the low-sensitivity pregnancy test included in your care package.
Unlike over-the-counter tests which can give false positives due to lingering hormones, our Check4®-hCG test is designed to confirm that your hCG levels have fully dropped — a reliable indicator that the abortion was successful.
Dr. Aka will follow up with you at 24 hours, 7 days, and 3 weeks after treatment - and you’ll have ongoing access to our support line throughout.
Yes, if you’re under 10 weeks pregnant and eligible for a medical abortion, you can book a same-day virtual consultation and receive abortion pills by post in Manchester. Pills are sent via tracked Royal Mail delivery, usually arriving the next day.
No. Top at Home is a private clinic — you can self-refer by booking online or calling us directly.
NHS-funded clinics such as BPAS or MSI in Manchester may involve 1–3 week wait times, limited hours, and multiple steps. At Top at Home, you can access a same-day consultation - either virtually or at our private abortion clinic in Manchester every Wednesday. You’ll speak directly with a specialist gynaecologist, not a GP or triage nurse. Many women choose our service for faster access, greater privacy, and to avoid long travel times or delays in the NHS system.
Yes - when prescribed by a qualified clinician, the abortion pill is a safe and effective way to end an early pregnancy at home. In England and Wales, over 60% of abortions now involve both pills being taken at home, and this is fully supported by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) up to 10 weeks’ gestation. During your consultation — whether in person at our Manchester clinic or online — we’ll screen for conditions like ectopic pregnancy and explain exactly how to take the pills safely.
There is no evidence that the abortion pill affects future fertility.

Medical abortion is over 98% effective when taken under medical supervision. Whether you attend our Manchester clinic or use our pills by post service, your treatment is tailored to ensure safety and effectiveness. We'll also provide a low-sensitivity pregnancy test to confirm success after 3 weeks.
At our Manchester clinic, you'll meet with Dr. Aka for a private consultation and ultrasound. If you're booking a virtual consultation for pills by post, you'll speak directly with him online. In both cases, we review your health history, confirm eligibility, and guide you through next steps.
Common side effects include cramping, heavy bleeding, nausea, diarrhoea, and fatigue. These symptoms are expected and usually last a few hours after taking the second tablet. We’ll give you clear guidance and pain management tips.
Less common side effects may include fever, chills, vomiting, or prolonged bleeding. These usually pass on their own, but we’ll explain when to seek support and you’ll have access to our team 7 days a week.
Serious complications after a medical abortion are rare — but it's important to be aware of warning signs and when to seek urgent care.
Ectopic pregnancy:
Around 2% of pregnancies are ectopic, meaning the pregnancy develops outside the womb, usually in a fallopian tube. This can be life-threatening if not treated early. We screen for ectopic pregnancy during your consultation, but symptoms may still develop later.Seek emergency medical care or call 999 if you experience:Sudden, sharp pain low in the abdomenPain in the shoulder or upper abdomenDizziness, fainting, or abdominal bloating.
Heavy bleeding:
Heavy bleeding is expected, but it should gradually reduce. If you soak 9 or more pads within 6 hours, feel faint, or experience dizziness, seek immediate medical help.
Future fertility:
Medical abortion does not affect your ability to get pregnant in the future.
If you're ever unsure or concerned, our team is available 7 days a week, and you’ll be given clear aftercare instructions whether you visit our Manchester clinic or choose abortion pills by post.
Yes - you can start most types of contraception immediately after a medical abortion, including the pill, implant, or injection. There’s no need to wait for your next period. We will advise you on your options during your consultation - whether that’s in person at our Manchester clinic or via virtual appointment for pills by post. If you’re considering a coil (IUD), this should be fitted after confirming the abortion is complete. We'll explain how to access contraception locally and when to start it safely.
We advise not travelling for at least 48 hours after taking the second abortion pill (misoprostol), as this is when cramping and bleeding are at their most intense.
This applies whether you’re using our pills by post service in Manchester or attending our in-person clinic. If you’re planning to travel:
- Wait 1–2 days after taking misoprostol, especially before flying.
- Make sure you have access to emergency care at your destination.
- If you’re travelling abroad, check that it’s legal to carry prescription medication - abortion pills are not permitted in all countries.
If you have a trip planned or need to travel soon, we’ll help you decide on the safest timing during your consultation. Your health and safety come first.
In line with UK best practice, a remote medical abortion (pills by post) is generally safe and effective up to 10 weeks gestation without the need for ultrasound, as long as gestational age can be confidently determined by history. However, an ultrasound scan is required (or in-person care recommended) if:
- The date of conception is unclear (e.g., irregular cycles, recent use of hormonal contraception, or uncertainty around LMP).
- There is a risk of ectopic pregnancyThe person has had multiple caesareans or complex medical history.
- There are concerns about pregnancy duration exceeding 10 weeks.
(RCOG and NICE both support “no-scan” medical abortions when history is reliable and safety criteria are met.)
Yes - you’re welcome to speak with a doctor first. Call us at 0333 305 9004 to schedule a free pre-consultation with Dr. Aka (GMC #4275695), our CQC-registered gynaecologist.
He’ll review your situation, explain your options, confirm your eligibility, and answer any questions - all with no pressure or obligation. We know this is a personal decision, and we’re here to help you make the choice that feels right for you.
You’ll have 24/7 direct access to Dr. Aka throughout your treatment. We also include a follow-up test in your package to confirm the abortion was successful, and check in at 24 hours, 7 days, and 3 weeks post-treatment for full peace of mind.
